ASTM A335 P5 Studded Fin Tubes
Product Overview

ASTM A335 P5 Studded Fin Tubes are engineered for demanding heat transfer applications involving elevated temperatures, aggressive flue gases, and severe thermal cycling conditions. Manufactured from ASTM A335 Grade P5 seamless ferritic alloy steel pipe, these tubes feature solid metal studs resistance-welded onto the external tube surface to increase heat transfer efficiency while maintaining excellent mechanical integrity.

The chromium-molybdenum alloy composition of P5 steel provides superior oxidation resistance, creep strength, and high-temperature performance compared to conventional carbon steel tubes. Studded fin tubes are widely utilized in refinery heaters, petrochemical furnaces, waste heat recovery boilers, thermal oil heaters, sulfur recovery units, and power generation facilities.

The studded design creates additional heat transfer surface area while allowing easier cleaning and better fouling resistance than conventional finned tubes, making them particularly suitable for dirty gas streams and high-temperature environments.

Manufacturing Process

Studded fin tubes are produced by automatically resistance welding carbon or alloy steel studs onto the outside surface of the ASTM A335 P5 base tube. The welding process creates a strong metallurgical bond that ensures efficient heat transfer and long-term reliability under cyclic operating conditions.

After welding, the tubes undergo dimensional verification, weld integrity inspection, and material testing to ensure compliance with project specifications and international quality standards.

Advantages of ASTM A335 P5 Studded Fin Tubes
High Temperature Performance

The 5% chromium content significantly improves oxidation and scaling resistance in elevated temperature service.

Enhanced Heat Transfer

Studs increase the effective external surface area and promote turbulence in gas flow, improving overall thermal efficiency.

Superior Durability

P5 alloy steel provides excellent creep resistance and structural stability during long-term exposure to high temperatures.

Lower Maintenance Requirements

The open stud configuration reduces dust accumulation and simplifies cleaning operations compared with closely spaced finned tubes.

Extended Equipment Life

Improved resistance to corrosion, oxidation, and thermal fatigue contributes to longer service intervals and reduced lifecycle costs.

Quality Standards

Manufacturing and inspection can be performed in accordance with:

  • ASTM A335
  • ASME SA335
  • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code
  • EN Standards (upon request)
  • Client Specifications
  • Third-Party Inspection Requirements (SGS, TÜV, BV, DNV, ABS, Lloyd's Register)
Why Choose ASTM A335 P5 Studded Fin Tubes?

For high-temperature heat recovery systems operating under severe process conditions, ASTM A335 P5 Studded Fin Tubes provide an optimal combination of thermal efficiency, oxidation resistance, mechanical strength, and operational reliability. Their proven performance in refinery heaters, petrochemical furnaces, and waste heat recovery equipment makes them a preferred solution for demanding industrial heat transfer applications worldwide.
