Several grades of austenitic stainless steel alloys are included in this specification Grades are designated with a prefix, WP or CR, based on the applicable ASME or MSS dimensional and rating standards, respectively.
The ASTM A403 WP317-S Stainless Steel Equal Tee is a high-performance, seamless or welded butt-welding pipe fitting designed for critical piping systems. Manufactured from grade WP317-S (a molybdenum-bearing austenitic stainless steel with enhanced carbon content for high-temperature strength), it meets the material specifications of ASTM A403 and the dimensional standards of ANSI/ASME B16.9. As an "Equal Tee," it features three connection ends of identical diameter, facilitating a 90-degree branch from a main pipeline. The WP317-S material, with a higher Molybdenum content (typically ≥ 3.0%), offers significantly better resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments (e.g., seawater, chemical media) compared to standard 316/316L grades, making it ideal for demanding petrochemical and offshore applications.
Seamless, indicating the tee is formed from a single piece without a longitudinal weld seam. This eliminates the potential weak points and defects associated with welding, delivering the highest structural integrity and safety for high-pressure, critical service systems like petrochemical plants.
The material exhibits superior resistance to sensitization and carbide precipitation under prolonged high-temperature service.
